Honest timber, raised by hand.
Our studio builds structural timber frameworks using traditional scribe-rule layout and hand-hewn local white oak. Every drawbore joint is secured with dry pegs that tighten naturally as the timber seasons.

Preservation and raising
Preserving historic barns
Meticulous structural repair of 18th and 19th-century New England barns. We replace decayed sills and sister broken bents, matching original species and historic scribe marks to respect the original fabric.
Heirloom timberwrighting
Hand-crafted residential frames built with local white oak and traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery. We adapt heritage structural systems for modern, energy-efficient building envelopes without relying on hidden steel.

Scribe, chisel, and peg
Examine the precision of pre-industrial craftsmanship. Every joint is laid out by hand, chiseled to tight tolerances, and secured with dry oak pegs, requiring no metal plates or modern connectors.
Their deep historical literacy and refusal to use modern metal plates saved our 1810 barn from structural collapse while preserving its historical integrity.
